Victoria Johnson is a 25 year old Jacksonville, Florida native. She was raised by her mother and grandmother. While pursuing her Bachelors degree in Anthropology at the University of Florida, as a first generation college student, she was afforded the opportunity to go on a service trip to Nicaragua. While providing dental hygiene treatments and rebuilding a school in Puerto Cabezas, she realized her passion for public health. Victoria was initiated into the Iota Lambda chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc. where she participated in meaningful community service and campus programming. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2011 and relocated to New York upon acceptance into the Master in Public Health program in August 2012. With a concentration in Community and International Health, Victoria spent the two years of her graduate program interning and learning of ways to alleviate health disparities plaguing low-income communities. Her main focus lies with helping to alleviate the rates of chronic disease through education of healthy living. As the secretary for the Pi Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Victoria has been able to continue working within the Harlem community on many service projects. She has just accepted a position as Project Coordinator over a research study aimed to alleviate disparities in mental health treatment through church-based interventions. “For he who has health has hope; and he who has hope, has everything.” Victoria truly believes in this quote and that every person deserves the ability and capacity to live a healthy life. Victoria’s future goals include pursing her medical degree and providing primary care and health education to change the overall health in low-income communities. Victoria is Purposefully Pretty because despite challenges and obstacles, she is still well on her way to fulfilling her purpose in life and encouraging others to pursue theirs. Trusting and putting her faith in God, Victoria will continue to do great things.
